Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP)
RRB ALP Eligibility Criteria 2026
The Railway Recruitment Boards have prescribed the RRB ALP 2026 eligibility criteria in CEN 01/2026. Candidates must satisfy the conditions related to age, educational qualification, nationality, and medical fitness before applying.

- Only the maximum eligible relaxation is allowed, not cumulative relaxation.
- SC, ST and OBC (NCL) candidates applying against UR vacancies do not get age relaxation.
- Date of birth must match the Matriculation / SSLC / 10th certificate.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess any one of the following qualifications on or before the closing date of application:
- Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from NCVT/SCVT recognized institutions in the prescribed ALP trades, or
- Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the prescribed trades, or
- Matriculation / SSLC plus 3-year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering, or a combination of these disciplines.
- A Degree in the same engineering disciplines is also acceptable in lieu of diploma.
Candidates awaiting the final result of the prescribed qualification are not eligible to apply.
ITI Trades Mentioned for ALP
The notification specifically lists trades such as Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright / Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, and Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic.
Nationality
- A citizen of India, or
- A citizen of Nepal, or
- A subject of Bhutan, or
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 01.01.1962 with the intention of permanent settlement, or
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates falling in categories other than Indian citizens must produce a Certificate of Eligibility from the Government of India during document verification.
Medical and Other Conditions
- The ALP post carries the A-1 medical standard.
- Candidates who have undergone LASIK or other refractive error correction surgery are not eligible for ALP.
- Candidates must submit self-screening medical declarations at the CBAT stage in the prescribed format.
- The post is marked not suitable for PwBD in Annexure-A of the notification.
